Ever since the spread of COVID-19, wearing face masks when going out has become an absolute necessity. These masks are supposed to keep you away and safe from the COVID-19 infection through inhaled air.
But most of us, who never used masks before in their lives, are making huge mistakes in using them now. These mistakes can be dangerous for your health. So, here are some of the most common mistakes people are making with their masks.
Once you wear a mask and it gets contaminated from the outside, then placing that mask on a surface automatically contaminates the surface.
That is why you better use the masks that are made for single use. Once you take them off, dispose them of. However, for the people using a cloth or a hand made mask, they will need to wash and sanitize it between wears.
Touching The Mask
If you contaminate your mask even by touching the outside, you will easily get infected. Taking off and mask and then putting it back on with dirty hands can cause the hands to transfer bacteria and viruses onto the mask. This way, these harmful organisms can reach the breathable area of the mask, making an easily entry in your body.
You should avoid touching your mask with dirty hands. If you must adjust the mask, make sure that your hands are properly cleaned before touching the mask.
Using a Mask For Too Long
The regular surgical and even KN95 masks are fit for one time use only. You can learn more about KN95 masks only to know that they must be changed every 2 to 3 hours. If not, the harmful particles accumulating on outer side of the masks might get sucked in your mouth with the air.
So, do not keep wearing the same mask all day long, and keep changing the mask every 2 to 3 hours.
