Making Your Own Shelves

In today’s article we will be talking about how you can take any random old pallet of wood and turn it into a small personal project. One of the easiest things to do with a wooden pallet is to turn it into a shelf of some sort. You can have the shelf look a number of different ways but they are all generally easy enough to make. So if you have a wooden pallet that you want to turn into something useful, then follow this article to get a few good tips on what you can do to make the wooden pallets into chic shelves.

So the first thing you need to do when you are making a diy pallet wall storage is that you need to sand the pallet. Take the different planks apart if you mean to use them separately for your own design, but then you should get to sanding them immediately. This removes unevenness and blemishes from the boards. The best way to go about it is to divide the pallet into the front and back half. Divide the planks of one side after sanding and keep the other half whole. This gives you a base to work on plus additional wooden planks that can make the different levels of the shelf.

Once you have the design aspect down, you should be using shelf brackets and wooden glue to keep the planks in place when you have fitted them on the back panel. Another piece of advice is using French cleats to hang up the shelf. This keeps it in place and it is very easy to make and place on the panels. Finally make sure you stain the shelf once done to give the panel a better look and so that it feels normal.
